It’s not a love story, despite the love and romance that plays out. It’s not a murder mystery, despite the fact that there is a murder/suicide (I won’t spoil which it turns out to be). It’s not urban fantasy, despite the fantastical elements. It’s hard for me to classify what “Blackberry Wine” is. So I chucked them both to the side and opened the third novel, “Blackberry Wine”.Īnd when the narrator turned out to be a literal bottle of wine, I was hooked. If it takes active willpower to continue reading a book, then it’s a poorly written book, no matter who the author may be. Then I actually opened the books and found them a slog. Pulp sci-fi with hand-painted cover art? Yes, please! I had only vaguely heard of Edgar Rice Burroughs and had never heard of E. The first two I picked completely arbitrarily by their cover art and thought they would be right up my alley. Smith, and “Blackberry Wine” by Joanne Harris (Sing it with me, one of these things is not like the other~). Anyway, I ended up picking out three books to read recently: “The Warlord of Mars” by Edgar Rice Burroughs, “Skylark DuQuesne”, by E. Like when I tried out Pla圜roco Online Casino that one time. That’s why, even though I am an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy novels, I sometimes step out of my comfort zone to try something else. However, even though Anna doesn’t want to be a werewolf and doesn’t fully understand all that goes with it, Charles is actually quite helpful to her. Charles, on the other hand, is a pretty intimidating werewolf, mostly because his father is the head of all the werewolf packs in North America. She was transformed into a werewolf against her will and even though Charles has destined her to be his mate, she doesn’t really know why or how to handle it. Anna’s whole entire life has been difficult. This book is about two werewolves, Anna and Charles, who are destined to be mates due to Charles’ will for it to be that way. That’s just the way I like to go into these things and it proved to be advantageous to me. I had never read anything by Briggs before so I went in hopeful and with absolutely no expectations. I liked the lore and history the author created the pantheon of gods – really this book has a bunch of my favorite fantasy elements – so of course I enjoyed it. The plot picked up as well and I’m not upset with how everything came together in the end. I loved the character development the most – because Willa, the MC, was damn annoying in the first book. I don’t remember exact events that happened within each book. I’ll be honest – I inhaled these so quickly (like, 1-2 a day) that I don’t remember much. Then suddenly I was 5 books and a novella in and didn’t know what to do with my life. After having read the Seraphim Academy series by Elizabeth Briggs and learning that I’m not so opposed to Reverse Harem stories as I thought I was – I opted to give the first book a try. This series has been on my radar for a while now – the first book sat in my “Saved For Later” Amazon cart for months. I’m still kind of on it, but I’ve moved back into YA for a moment – there are a few books I’ve been meaning to read, and I do need a little bit of a break. I’m still blaming A Court of Silver Flames. As you all know, I was on a spicy, steamy, smut kick. But only when she gets to know them both does she begin to see the cracks.
